1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember information about your visit, such as your preferences or login state.

Noventis primarily uses localStorage — a browser-based storage mechanism similar to cookies — rather than traditional HTTP cookies. This allows us to store session data client-side without transmitting it on every request.

2. What We Store and Why

The following items are stored in your browser's localStorage:

crescent_token Your JWT authentication token. Required to keep you logged in between page loads. Until logout or token expiry
crescent_csrf CSRF protection token. Sent with all state-changing requests to prevent cross-site request forgery attacks. Until logout
crescent_user Cached user profile data (username, role, avatar) to avoid repeated API calls on navigation. Until logout or profile update

3. Essential vs. Non-Essential Storage

All storage listed above is essential to the functioning of Noventis. Without these items:

  • You would not be able to stay logged in
  • State-changing actions (liking profiles, sending messages) would fail CSRF validation
  • The interface could not display your correct profile information

Noventis does not use any advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies. We do not set third-party cookies.

4. Third-Party Storage

When you use certain integrations, third-party services may set their own cookies or storage:

  • Discord OAuth: During the login flow, Discord may set cookies on their domain. These are governed by Discord's own Cookie Policy.
  • Google Fonts: Fonts are loaded from Google's CDN. Google may log request data. We use the crossorigin attribute to minimize data sharing.
  • Cloudflare: Our platform may be served through Cloudflare, which may set security cookies (__cf_bm, cf_clearance) to protect against bots. These are security-essential.

5. How to Manage or Clear Storage

You can clear all Noventis storage data at any time by:

  • Signing out of your account (clears all Noventis localStorage entries)
  • Clearing your browser's localStorage via your browser's Developer Tools
  • Clearing all site data from your browser's privacy settings for the Noventis domain

Note that clearing storage will log you out and you will need to sign in again.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via an in-platform notice. Continued use of Noventis after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
